Jewelry Makers Network

A gathering place for jewelry makers to share ideas, make friends, & to have fun

I'm really new to this and was hoping for a few words of advice.

How long did it take you guys to master wire work (I've seen some pics on here and they're amazing) and do you have any tips for a newbie.

How did you first go about selling you're jewellery?

If you're based in the UK where do you get your supplies?

I'm hugely excited to be finally making jewellery and I want to be making a living out of it but it's all a little daunting so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Laura!

Welcome to the Jewelry Makers Network! Folks are friendly here and are very willing to help! There are many online sources for supplies. Fire Mountain Gems (www.firemountaingems.com) and Rio Grande (www.riogrande.com) are large online distributers of tools and materials. I'm not as familiar with companies in the UK. If there is a local bead shop that offers classes, that is the best way to get started. There are also excellent video tutorials offered online. YouTube has many free videos but it can be hit or miss regarding the quality of instructions. I have also found the video classes at www.beaducation.com to be excellent. There are also videos posted here on wire art.jewelrymakingmagazines.com/en/Videos.aspx. DVD's are another option. There are several good ones available at www.kalmbachstore.com/beading-jewelry-crafts-beading-dvd-jcod.html. If you are interested in chainmaille the two videos by Spider are fantastic and can be found here http://www.spiderchain.com/instructions/dvd.thtml Hope this helps! And welcome to the wonderful world of jewelry making! :-)
