A gathering place for jewelry makers to share ideas, make friends, & to have fun
Hi All,
I am new to the site and fairly new to Jewellery Making, so like many before me I am trawling through techniques to find what suits my skills and temperament best.
The latest is coiling. Would anyone like to share some tips with me about finishing Coil Spacers?

I have the same question Jane. I get stuck when it comes to 'finishing' what I start. When I came across the switch knot weave, it was the one thing I really looked into - how to finish it - because I didn't want to get started and have to figure it out and mess things up. I will let you know if I uncover anything about finishing coil spacers as improve my skills and techniques. If you find anything, please share! All the best! Jean
The mystery of finishing Coil Spacers was eventually answered by getting a Gizmo (so much easier than doing every it by hand) and scouring the internet for tutorials. The answer that I was looking for was the guide wire which goes through the coil and gives it strength and shape. The end of the guide wire can be formed into plain or wrapped links as you require. It's just a shame that no one was able to explain this to me when I first started exploring Coiled wire jewellery.
I have never come across the switch knot weave, I hope it goes well for you and I look forward to seeing the finished article.
Hi Jane,
Thanks for the information. I used the switch knot weave (usually used in hemp jewelry) in the Valentine set I sent to my sister. I've attached a more up-close photo for you on the section. You can find a tutorial on this here: http://www.how-to-make-jewelry.com/hemp-necklace-making.html I made it with 22/24 gauge wire but think even a 28gauge wire would probably be a bit easier to use.
Hope this helps you see it much better. Sorry about the size of the photo - didn't realise it would turn out so large.
All the best!
Jean
