Jewelry Makers Network

A gathering place for jewelry makers to share ideas, make friends, & to have fun

Hubby made this split heart for me as a surprise for Valentine's Day (we don't usually exchange gifts). He burned my name on the back of one half, and his name on the back of the other half.

This was my first pitiful attempt at wire wrapping (it's only craft wire - I haven't gotten around to buying SS wire to re-do it). The three SS heart beads in the center are for our three daughters. Other beads in this piece are black onyx, SS, and a reddish bead that matches the natural color of the Purple Heart wood almost perfectly. I got those beads from my local bead shop, but they weren't marked as to the substance they're made from. I think they're glass.

Thank you for that! I like making things that (to me) are pretty, but I find myself heading more towards symbolism. In this piece, I wanted to wrap the two pieces together to create a whole heart with our children at the center, much like how we see our family.

I don't think this is a pathetic attempt at wire wrapping AT ALL. I am also a beginner, but the wrapping to me is simple and speaks strongly as a narrative element. I really love this piece!
