Jewelry Makers Network

A gathering place for jewelry makers to share ideas, make friends, & to have fun

What methods do you use to inspire creativity for your designs?

I like to listen to soothing music, take a walk, look at nature, or page through style and jewelry magazines when I need a creativity boost. I've heard that some people keep a scrap book of clippings that they page through when they have creative blocks. Any other ideas? This question was inspired by Christina. Great discussion topic!

Good topic! When I get "stuck" for an idea - I turn to color for inspiration! I use a website called Colour Lovers (www.colourlovers.com) to scroll through different palettes and patterns and I usually come away with an idea or two for a piece of jewelry or bead/color combination.

Neat site -- give it a looky!

That's a great tip Susan! The Colour Lovers website looks like an excellent resource! Thanks for sharing. Here's another color scheme tool that I recently came across http://colorschemedesigner.com/

Have you seen Margie Deeb's book, "The Beader's Color Palette"? A great source for inspiration. I had an opportunity to take a class with her at Beadfest last weekend. She's really a terrific person.

For me, inspiration can come from magazines, TV, clothing advertisements, and from customers that frequent the bead shop where I work part time! Sometimes the beads inspire me and sometimes it's just the type of mood I'm in when I sit down to create. The weather and the season can play a big factor too. I enjoy listening to the birds when I have my studio window open...that's peaceful and relaxing for me.
I just re-organized my studio and what bliss it is to walk into it now and know that I can find everything I need!
