Jewelry Makers Network

A gathering place for jewelry makers to share ideas, make friends, & to have fun

Hi,

I'm currently in the market to find a store who hopefully has a website for semi-p. beads for my work.

I'm disabled and live in a town that has only 1 really expensive beading store. I was desperate to finish a project at Christmas with 4 angel wings and bought them from him. They were NOT sterling silver. The cost? $9!

I've been buying most of my stones from Fire Mtn and it's hit or miss with them. Either the beads are WOW or they are total crap. And the pricing doesn't seem to matter.

I've tried sticking to their A-B grade ratings and that hasn't helped. Again, hit or miss.

Currently, I'm using an Etsy store. Her beads are awesome. No complaints. But if I want citrine and she doesn't have any I have to go elsewhere, etc.

The same goes for findings. most of the stuff at Fire Mtn comes in bulk, so headpins and some clasps are OK. But their earring findings for chandeliers have really turned bad these past months.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions!

Hi Renee, I've found Ebay to be a very good source for semi-precious stones. The prices are much better than Etsy, and there is a surprising range to be found.  Jns is another great source - plus, they have free shipping worldwide.

Hope this is some help to you.

Cheers,

Gail
