About Me - Tell us a little about yourself and your area of expertise: Hi my name is Deb Hall and my shop is Zur Designs. Zur is a made up word between my best friend and I that means yes or yup in our wacky little world.

When I was a teenager, my sister Cathy had a job doing jewelry homework. She received a big box of jewelry pieces and findings and she had to put together all the pieces to make earrings and bracelets and pendants. I would stay with her during the summer and we would sit at a big table and listen to music and chat and we’d put everything together in assembly line fashion. That introduced me to the jewelry tools and all the findings.

I was reintroduced to jewelry making when another sister Pat and I took a beading course together. We have been actively beading ever since. I have since begun working in wire, particularly sterling silver and I especially enjoy making wire rings along with pendants and charms.

So many people have encouraged me along the way by giving me beads and old necklaces that were made of fantastic beads that I recycled into new pieces. My sister Jude gave me lots of beads and my dear friend the Hermit Designer, a true craftsman in metal fabrication, is generously willing to teach me the trade.

I live in the Berkshire Mountains in the most western part of Massachusetts with my lovable dog and persnickety cat. It’s an enchanting place and is ultimately the inspiration for the pieces that you see here.

Secret Garden Necklace

When I was a little girl we had this wonderful backyard that overlooked a pond and had lots of trees to climb, a large vegetable garden, lots of flowers, and a stone fireplace where the family had cookouts all summer long. My dad put in a swimming pool so he could keep track of all of us and so we had a tall fence all away around the perimeter of the yard.
